2011 Season Recap
Our racing team had a very successful year on the racetrack and I had an extremely good year off the racetrack.
On October 1st I got married to a wonderful woman Dana (Smith) Larson in Lake City Iowa. She has almost as much
background in racing as I do, of her 7 brothers, 5 are racing at tracks around Iowa and 4 of them are IMCA National
champions. So in addition to my own racing I try to help and support them as much as I can.
Also, in June, I started a new job at Karl Kustoms in Ankeny building Street Rods and custom cars. The wedding planning
kept us busy this summer but we had plenty of time to do some racing as well.
Our racing season started out very well as we notched our first win on the opening night at the Marshalltown Speedway,
and followed it up with a win the next week as well. We started racing at the Boone Speedway on Saturday nights until the
Hamilton County Speedway opened a few weeks later. We were consistently in the top 3 almost every night that we finished
and ended up the year with 7 wins. 4 at the Marshalltown Speedway, and 1 each at the Hancock County Speedway, Hamilton
County Speedway, and a $1000 Special at Algona Raceway. We ended up 3rd in points at Marshalltown and 4th in the
Hamilton County Speedway final standings. In addition we finished in 5th place in the IMCA North Central points standings.
The end of the season also brought the end of my car owners involvement with racing, Bob has been involved either as an
owner, racer, or engine builder for 50 plus years and we look forward to hopefully seeing him attend a few races this
season.
Bob sold our team to a newly formed “Good Racing” of Ames and I will be driving for them in the 2012 season. We have
some pretty big plans for next year, which will include a 2nd car, new shop and hopefully a lot of feature wins. We plan to
run the Southern Iowa Speedway on Wednesday nights, Marshalltown Speedway on Friday nights, Hamilton County
Speedway on Saturday nights and many specials during the summer.
I know its been a while since I’ve gotten updates and new pictures up on my website but I will get some new material up as
we are building our new car and completing our shop. Thanks for visiting.
