With my first weekend of racing in the books I can honestly say that all of the hard work this winter has
paid off. All of the rain we have had has kept the car in the shop and me off of the track for practice
sessions until, Thursday April 19th, where we took the car to Webster City to shake it out, and it was a
good thing we did. I had some issues with the ignition on the car and the motor wasn’t running up to full
song, as well as other troubles with brakes and such, which is to be expected on a brand new car. I still
was able to get some valuable laps in the car and made huge improvements on my driving. We had the
car loaded up and ready so we decided to take it to the Iowa State Fairgrounds the next night and get
some laps on that track. We were still fighting an ignition problem but I was able to get 3 practice
sessions and gained some more on things. The next week we made some changes, and were able to fix
our problem just in time for my first heat race on Friday night at the Fairgrounds. I was not used to
actually having the motor run as it should, so I lost some ground at the start, but I was able to make some
changes in my line and pass for the win. I redrew the worst number (12) for the feature lineup, which
started me outside the 6th row. I settled in at the start around the 9th spot and was picking my way
through the field when on a restart I got a jump on the outside of a car for 5th, and didn’t quite get far
enough along the side of him and I had to back off as he was coming out to the wall. This cost me several
spots but was able to fight back to finish 7th in the main. Not the result that I had going but that’s racing,
and my good friend Jeremy Grady won the feature, so that was exciting too.

The next night we went to Webster City and had a little tougher time in my heat race, where I finished 4th.
I still made the redraw and lined up 3rd row outside for the main. The track was rough on the bottom and
slick everywhere else, which is what I like, but with my lack of experience I am not sure yet how much I
can tighten up this car and I am still not used to the brakes and how it handles. I settled in around 6th
spot, and midway through the race I was working on 4th with a car that was not setup nearly tight enough
for the slick condition, and on a restart I got passed by a couple cars and then another car a few laps
later. Then I went to searching on the track for a different line that I could make up some ground, which I
found the last 5 laps of the race right against the wall on the outside. I was able to make back some
positions and finished 5th in the main.

All things considered with this being my first time in a late model, I was extremely encouraged with the
results and how easy I could adapt to this new class. It has been a long time since I’ve been this fired up
about racing and I hope I can keep that enthusiasm up throughout the season. Intensitee did a fantastic
job of designing my new tee shirts and I will have them up on my website within a week and ready for
delivery in sizes 10-12, 14-16, M, L, XL, for $15 each and XXL for $18 each. Get em’ while they last.
